QUEEN CREEK, AZ—The Queen Creek High School boy’s volleyball team starts its season today at home against Mountain View.
In just their sixth season as a program at QC, the boys are hoping to improve upon their record of 20-15 last year and a first-round state tournament appearance.
First-year head coach Turner Beall said his team will be able to contend this season by implementing a competitive drive and work ethic in practice and in games.
“Our team goals this year are obviously to win a state championship,” said Beall. “But first comes winning games. We can’t get to the playoffs without winning games, so we will take one step at a time to succeed at that main goal.”
Beall said his team’s major strengths play into that competitive mentality.
“Our worth ethic and competitive drive are for sure a strength,” said Beall. “We do plenty of drills in practice that touch on those important parts of athletics. I would say our weaknesses as a team are the height of our kids. We have some height, but not a ton.”
Kids to watch this season for the boys include outside hitters Riley Peterson and Dallin Glad, and senior setter Caleb Caudill.
“Riley is a returning varsity starter from last year who has another year of experience under his belt,” said Beall. “Caleb was 11th in the state in blocks last year and will be a big part of our offense and defense. Glad has tremendous athleticism to become a perennial hitter for our team this year.”
The team has three games this week to start the season. Today and tomorrow will be at home, starting at 5 p.m. for varsity. They will travel to Perry on Thursday. Check all of our social media sites and athletic website for updates throughout the season.
